What Is The Ideal Temperature In A Roof Space?

Generally we think of roof ventilation as something that is beneficial to our homes in especially hot weather. A well-ventilated rood space or attic will ensure that hot air that rises has somewhere to go, and that somewhere is outside away from your living space. If heat doesn’t escape through the roof, it essential remains trapped in the house and as more and more heat builds up it is pushed back into the rooms of your house. This is obviously not ideal when you’re trying to avoid the heat.

Not only does the roof space need a few exit points for the heat to escape, but it needs to have something to flush it out. Ultimately, the level of air movement in this area needs to be kept up in order for the house to cool itself more efficiently.

Roof ventilation systems are designed to increase air flow in this space during the summer months. But there is also evidence to suggest that constant air flow is advantageous in cold climates also – this act to stabilise the temperature in this space and can actually have the effect of helping the house stay warm as well as cool.

The HDS home ventilation system disperses the hot hair out of your home allowing the cooling of your home to take place. Upto 70 degrees of heat is usually retained in the space between the roof and the ceiling which is actually a considerable amount affecting the rest of your home. The thermostatically controlled HDS works to keep the temperature in the roof space around 28-30 degrees.

This is because warm air (which is our friend under cold conditions) can travel more quickly and efficiently if the air in the roof space – and indeed the home – is in constant movement. For a well-insulated home that is properly sealed and ducted, there is very little difference in terms of the way the roof ventilation system should operate. In fact, if the system can keep the temperature in the roof space between 28-30 with proper air circulation, it won’t matter if it’s hot or cold outside – the home will be in a position to heat and cool itself in a highly efficient manner.
